Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, first published in 1960 as a "beginner reading book" is a story told through wacky characters and rhyming dialogue. It is said to be the fourth best selling children's English language book of all time.
The story depicts the tale of Sam-I-Am, who very persistently encourages an unnamed character to try the green eggs and ham despite the character's insistence that he would not like it.
Maybe Dr. Seuss' message in this story is to never give up as Sam tries to entice him with an exhaustive array of locations and dining partners. He irritates the unnamed character to the point of submission . . .
"Sam!!!!! If you will let me be, I will try them . . . you will see!!"
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again . . . we all know that much to the delight of Sam, the grouchy guy loved the green eggs and ham once he tried them.
It has been one of my favorite cartoons of all time and I was so happy to find it on You Tube . . . it brings out the little girl in me. Hope it brings back some fond memories for you too!
